Witness helps nab suspects

STONE MOUNTAIN — An alert witness helped catch two men that robbed a Stone Mountain video game store at gunpoint Friday afternoon, jotting down a license plate number and helping police arrest them within a few hours of their alleged crime.

According to reports from Gwinnett County police, David Allen Beatty of Tucker and William Oliver Henderson of Lawrenceville entered the Game Stop store at 1825 Rockbridge Road Friday, one donning a on “Scream” mask while the other wore a “Jason” mask.

Whipping out a semi-automatic pistol, “the man in the scream mask ordered (the store manager) to open the drawers and give him all the money” at around 1:07 p.m. Friday, the report read.

The duo made out with an undisclosed amount of cash and at least two video game consoles, but they wouldn’t get far.

A witness waiting for a haircut at a nearby barbershop caught the license plate number of the alleged criminals’ 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, which police linked to a DeKalb County address.

DeKalb police subsequently surrounded the Stone Mountain address before the suspects surrendered, officials said.

Beatty and Henderson were each arrested and charged with armed robbery, and booked into Gwinnett County Jail just after 8 p.m. Friday, records show.

Both are being held without bond.
