SPORTS IN BRIEF: Hebron baseball players to sign

Hebron seniors Seth Gower and Danny Lockhart will sign letters of intent this week with college baseball programs.

Gower is headed to East Georgia Junior College after hitting .400 with nine home runs and 40 RBIs as a Hebron junior. The infielder/outfielder was selected as the Region 8-A utility player of the year in voting by the region’s coaches.

Lockhart, a shortstop, will sign with Kennesaw State. A first-team all-region and second-team all-county selection, he hit .568 with seven home runs and 43 RBIs as a junior.

Former Panther McCoy to sign with Nicholls State

Parkview grad Jordan McCoy, who plays for Central Alabama Community College, will sign a letter of intent Wednesday with the Nicholls State (La.) baseball program. He is the son of Mike and Inga McCoy.

Two Eagles bound for college baseball

Collins Hill seniors Morgan Ownbey and A.J. Farris will sign letters of intent this week with college baseball programs. Ownbey is headed to Georgia College and State University and Farris is bound for Marshall.

Norcross to honor college signees

Norcross will recognize six senior athletes Wednesday for signing letters of intent with college athletic programs. The ceremony begins at 2:45 p.m. in the Duke Building at Norcross.

The signee group includes basketball players E. Victor Nickerson (UNC-Charlotte), Josiah Moore (Nebraska), Alonzo Nelson-Ododa (Richmond) and De’Arica Hamby (Wake Forest). Baseball player William Paschall (Young Harris) and tennis player Cameron Williams (Georgia Southern) also will be honored.

Duluth to recognize early signees

Duluth senior baseball players Patrick Riley and John Clark, along with senior basketball players Kayla Nolan and Tarlesha Boles, will be honored with a Wednesday ceremony for signing letters of intent with college athletic programs.

Riley will sign with Tallahassee Community College, Clark with Georgia College and State University, Nolan with Georgia State and Boles with North Carolina Central.

North softball players to sign

North Gwinnett seniors Caroline Rogers and Alex McDavid will sign letters of intent this week with college fastpitch softball programs. Rogers has committed to Appalachian State and McDavid has committed to Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.

Peachtree Ridge announces big signing class

Peachtree Ridge will have four soccer players, three baseball players and a volleyball player in its large early class of senior college-bound athletes.

The soccer players who will sign letters of intent are Mitch Kupstas (Brown University), Baillie Burmaster (Oklahoma State), Melissa Lay (Western Carolina) and McCall Gardner (Memphis). Jared Walsh (Georgia), Brett Polachek (South Georgia) and Preston Johnson (Winthrop) are the baseball signees, while volleyball player Delaina Sarden is signing with Central Florida.

Norcross-Walton football on CSS

CSS will televise Friday’s playoff matchup between Norcross and Walton as its high school football game of the week. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
