Buford duo named youth All-Americans
Buford youth football players Konnor Houston and Joshua Thomas have been selected for the 2011 Eastbay Youth All-American Bowl, scheduled for Jan. 9 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
The two players will be honored along with Georgia's other selections -- Andrew Butcher of Alpharetta and Jay Harris of Kennesaw -- prio to the start of today's football game between the Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Houston will play tight end for the eighth-grade East USA team and Thomas will play running back for the same team.
Bronco baseball signees to be honored
Brookwood's baseball program will have a signing ceremony Wednesday to honor five college-bound seniors. The event will be at 2:30 p.m. in the Broncos' commons area.
The group includes seniors Nick Moore and Trey Martin, who will sign letters of intent with Kennesaw State. Fellow seniors Brandon Agar, Jacob Beauchamp and Tremayne Toorie will be recognized for signing with North Georgia.
South's Baker commits to Tusculum
South Gwinnett senior Kiara Baker has made a commitment to the Tusculum College (Tenn.) women's basketball program. Baker will have her official signing of the letter of intent on Wednesday.
Panthers' Carroll to have signing ceremony
Parkview senior Katie Carroll will sign a letter of intent this week to play basketball at Belmont University (Tenn.). She will be honored with a ceremony Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Parkview.
Local records hole-in-one
Mitchel Bethea-Flowers of Lawrenceville made a hole-in-one Friday on the par-3, eighth hole at The Hooch in Duluth. Bethea-Flowers used a pitching wedge for the ace.
