DULUTH -- Officials are searching for a couple they believe passed off a large number of counterfeit $100 bills Wednesday in order to purchase high-dollar electronics in Duluth.

The couple entered the Target store on Venture Drive at approximately 7:20 p.m., buying several electronics items, including a pair of large flat screen TVs, Gwinnett County police said.

They paid, officials said, with 32 fake $100 bills -- altering "legitimate $5 bills" to make them appear like $100s. Police spokesmen declined to comment on the process used to alter the lower denomination bills.

The unidentified male suspect is described as black, approximately 6-foot-2 and 250 pounds. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a black coat and a black Washington Redskins hat.

His female accomplice is described by police as black, approximately 5-foot-2 and 135 pounds. She was last seen with her hair in ponytail or bun, wearing a gray sweatshirt and carrying a pink purse.

The couple is believed to have left the store in a dark colored conversion van with a raised roof and a light colored strip down the sides, police said.
