The U12 Dacula Strikers girls soccer team 

The Georgia Elite 16U girls basketball team recently won the Georgia State AAU title for the eighth consecutive year.

They have amassed a record of 304-54 in those years and were last year’s runner-up at 16U AAU Nationals. The team went 5-0 last weekend won by 34 points a game.

Team members are: Keyonna Allen, Katie Carroll, Andraya Carter, Erika Ford, Kayla Freeman, Kira Gordon, Brittany Hodges, Quaneisha McCurty, Jarae Savage, Kylee Smith, Aja Sorrells, Ka’Vonne Towns and Annie Wheeler. They are coached by Tim Ellis, Lynn Carroll and Bosco McAbee.


Hawks repeat at state

The Mill Creek girls club lacrosse team won the state championship on May 16 for the second year in a row.

The Hawks’ roster features: Sara Simmons, Erin Kelly, Erin Miller, Anna Rambo, Zoie Levy, Lyndi Moore, Jessica Reese, Kelci Keel, Shannon Cemate, Kaylee Lane, Ashley Fisher, Dana Basso, Rachel Sackett, Leslie Wade, Hanna Kim, Sydney Hood, Haley Hood, Clara Hong, Ashton Wheeles, Ashley Farkas and Catherine Shlueter.

The team is coached by Tom Higgins, Dan Kesselring, Bo Adams and Bob Merry.

GLL completes second season

The Gwinnett Lacrosse League recently completed its second season with the GLL Championships at Greater Atlanta Christian School. The six youth associations fielded 31 boys and girls teams in the league. The league’s 840 players competed in over 240 games, culminating in the championship.

Revolution wins President’s Cup

The Dacula Revolution soccer club’s U13 boys white team recently won the Georgia Youth Soccer Association President’s Cup Tournament.

The team will advance to the U.S. Youth Soccer Region III Presidents Cup Competition in Broken Arrow, Okla., on June 10-13.

The boys beat two teams from their current league, the Cobb County YMCA 2-1 and Gwinnett County rival Atlanta Fire United 4-1 as well as two teams from a higher ranked league, new soccer club Atlanta Spurs 6-2 and Macon United Soccer Club 3-1.

This team will be promoted within the GYSA league structure in fall 2010 to Classic II level play. The team also placed second at last weekend’s GSA Super Cup’s Red Division.

Team members are: Jack Giles, Dylan Harper, Austin Harrison, Hunter Haynes, Jeff Hollingsworth, Edgar Huerta, Bryson King, Davis Magee, Matt Miller, Conner Parreira, Alex Romero, Jeremy Trent and Xavier Won. The team is coached by Daniel Thernize and Lori Miller.

Dacula soccer team wins state title

The U12 Dacula Strikers girls soccer team beat the Cherokee Eagles in penalty kicks last weekend, winning the Georgia Soccer State Rec Championship in Columbus.

Goalkeeper Simone Guerra blocked all five kicks in the PK round, while Kate Kostel converted the game-winning shot for the Strikers, who outscored their opponents 24-0 in the tourney. They were the only team of the 166 in all age groups to not allow a goal, with Guerra and Victoria Botz handling the goalie duties.

Alexis Henderson, Madison Thorpe, Lauren Butera and Maddie Jones anchored the defense, while Debra Tsogbe, Veronika Siatka, Ameera Daboh, Lindsey Stevens and Kostel also played well in defense, attack and ball control.

Leonora Luce, the tournament’s leading scorer, led the Strikers’ offense. The team is coached by Andy Luce and David Guerra.

The rec cup title capped a nice weekend for the Dacula Revolution soccer program, whose under-10 boys academy white and under-9 white and green girls won titles at the Atlanta Peach Classic.


Dirt Dawgs qualify for ASA national tourney

The North Gwinnett Dirt Dawgs 14U ‘A’ team earned a berth to the ASA national tournament in Moline, Ill., on Aug. 1.

The Dirt Dawgs won the state tournament at Bishop Park in Marietta with a 6-4 victory over the Atlanta Vipers. The Dirt Dawgs also had wins over Georgia Fire (11-2), Georgia Stealth (8-6), Georgia Express (18-1) and Georgia Fire (5-1).

Team members are: Katie Black, Morgan Brown, Kensey Caldwell, Destiny Clyde, Lindsey Cobb, Hannah Harrison, Megan Kimble, Mallory Koepke, Taylor Miller, Halie Sarrow, Rose Schmidt, Amanda Shimmin and Miranda Tuck.

The team is coached by Randy Cobb, Don Harrison, Jim Shimmin, Blaine Sarrow and Jeff Caldwell.

Worth Cobras make Hall of Fame field

The Worth Cobras ‘97 fastpitch team has earned a berth to the ASA Hall of Fame Tournament, scheduled for June 11-13 in Oklahoma City. The top eight finishers earn a trip to ASA Nationals in August.

Members of the team are: Baylei Banfield, Emily Boothe, Danielle Downs, Kalia Johnson, Samantha Kates, Avery Lamb, Madison Moseley, Casey Page, Raven Smith and Savanna Turvy.


Signature Park Hawks win at East Cobb

The 12-and-under Signature Park Hawks won the East Cobb USSSA World Series Qualifier tournament last week at the East Cobb Baseball Complex.

The Hawks went undefeated in the tourney with wins over the Kennesaw Xtreme, West Cobb Wildcats, Oregon Park Dawgs, East Cobb Colt .45’s and East Cobb Braves. They are coached by Rod Davenport, Doug Lewis, John Reppert and Keith Elliott.

Team members are: Gabe Davenport, Austin Elliott, Robert Kwaitkowski, Matthew Lewis, Loren Matzick, Brendan Munson, Justin Reppert, Jacob Weisenberger, Kobe Wharton, Brett Whitford and Tyler Zak.

Wolves claim King of the Mountain title

The 9U Buford Wolves won the King of the Mountain tournament on May 22 and 23 in Ellijay.

Team members are Brandon Brittle, Cole Hunter, Blake Hutchins, K.J. Johnson, Reece McIntyre, Zach Mills, Trent Milton, Logan Orr, Spencer Starkweather, Austin Turner and Sergio Vargas. The teacm is coached by Jason Hutchins, Richard Brittle, Chad McIntyre and Greg Starkweather.


Jeremiah wins national doubles title

Peachtree Ridge’s Mary Jeremiah teamed with Walton’s Emily Zabor to win the National Open Doubles title for 18-year-old players this past weekend at the Hudlow Tennis Center in Norcross. The high school tennis rivals, seeded fifth, teamed up to win a tourney featuring 128 of the nation’s top boys and girls players.
