SNELLVILLE -- Police arrested a Snellville Middle School teacher recently after a student told authorities she continually roughed him up over a period of several months.
Sheriff's Department deputies arrested sixth-grade teacher Belinda Hazlett, 36, on misdemeanor simple battery charges Thursday, following an investigation by school police.
Hazlett posted $1,300 bond a few hours after her arrest. She remains a school employee but has not been allowed to return to the middle school, pending the outcome of an internal investigation, said Gwinnett Public Schools spokesman Jorge Quintana.
The student complained to his parents that Hazlett had forcefully pushed him in his chest and yanked his shirt collar on several occasions between January and earlier this month, according to arrest warrants.
"It happened multiple times, according to the parent," said Quintana. "The student said he couldn't remember exactly what day."
Hazlett has been employed with the Gwinnett system since August 2001, all with Snellville Middle School, Quintana said.
