LAWRENCEVILLE -- Officials have scheduled a family friendly, free movie night this Friday at -- of all places -- the Gwinnett County Animal Shelter as a means to raise adoption awareness.
A "Movie Night" is planned each Friday until schools begin again later this summer. The objective is to encourage parents to check out the animals (and adopt at least one) while shelter officials watch the kids, said Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter.
The initial offering, "Finding Nemo," begins at 6:30 p.m. at the shelter. Complimentary popcorn and drinks will be served.
To reserve free tickets, call 770-339-3200, ext. 5565 or drop an e-mail to acuadmin@gwinnettcounty.com. Reservations are required.
The Gwinnett County Animal Shelter is located at 884 U.S. Highway 29 (Winder Highway), Lawrenceville, 30045.
A mandatory veterinarian fee of $60 applies to all adoptions. Seniors (age 55 plus) can adopt animals for free. The vet fees for seniors are a reduced $30.
