Berkmar soccer players sign with Atlanta Christian

Berkmar seniors Susan Hernandez and Stephen Loaiza have signed to play soccer for Atlanta Christian College.

Hernandez is a four-year starter and team captain for the Berkmar girls as a midfielder and defender. Loaiza, also a team captain, was a key starter in the Patriots' defense.

Mustangs' Robinson, Glass sign with colleges

Meadowcreek senior Aaron Robinson has signed a letter of intent to play basketball for Georgia College and State University, while teammate Terrance Glass has signed with Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

The 5-foot-9 Robinson led Gwinnett in assists as a senior, averaging 8.0 for a Region 8-AAAAA championship team. Glass was among the county's top scorers, averaging a team-best 17.6 points along with 7.6 rebounds.

Parkview track athletes sign with colleges

Two Parkview seniors, Dexter Lawrence and Jeff Crain, were honored Thursday for signing with college programs. Lawrence signed with Union College (Ky.) and Crain signed with the College of Charleston.

Former Collins Hill coach Tipton joins Lanier staff

Tracey Tipton, who enjoyed great success as Collins Hill's head girls basketball coach, was announced Thursday as associate head coach of the girls basketball program at Lanier High School, slated to open in August.

Tipton recently stepped down at Collins Hill, where she led the Eagles to two state titles and a national championship.

New Lanier head girls coach Jeremy Huckaby also has hired Taylor Cross as his junior varsity head coach. Cross is currently working at Peachtree Ridge.

Bike Fest registration open

Registration is now open for the 2010 Gwinnett Bike Fest, an annual event for cyclists in the area. More information is available at www.GeorgiaCycling.net.
