BERKELEY LAKE - City residents will get three opportunities to voice their opinions regarding a proposed millage rate increase next month. Public hearings have tentatively been scheduled for noon and 7 p.m. June 3, and for 8 p.m. on June 11 at Berkeley Lake City Hall. The current millage rate is 3.687, and the proposed higher rate is 4.9 mills.
Once the public hearing dates are confirmed with all council members, they will be advertised.
Officials still mulling Animals ordinance
City council members are still considering an ordinance amendment addressing proper ways to deal with area wildlife and possible nuisances. Councilwoman Rebecca Spitler and councilman Frank Lombardi suggested changing some wording in the current version of the amendment, providing for options for dealing with squirrels, rats and other animals, and for specifying how to handle dogs running loose in the community.
Other matters addressed in the proposed amendment include feeding and trapping wildlife.
The ordinance change will be discussed again at the June city council meeting.
