Owner: Grayson resident Muzo Saritas, a native of Turkey, has put his 17 years worth of experience working in the food and beverage industry into Metro Cafe Diner. He was inspired to explore the diner concept after a trip to New York, where he found he liked the idea that customers could order anything on the menu at any time.
Atmosphere: Metro Cafe Diner offers its customers a more upscale experience in what still remains a diner-like atmosphere. Two dining areas are divided by the entrance at the order counter and an adjacent dessert case containing enticing cakes. While both dining areas offer booth and table seating, the section to the left includes the bar, where customers can take a seat and order one of the many specialty drinks the establishment serves.
Menu: With more than 100 items on its menu, Metro Cafe Diner runs the gamut of foods, from Southern fare and Italian dishes to Mexican- and Asian-inspired selections.
The Greek specialties top the list of most popular items, including the combination Greek platter, a chicken or beef gyro, spinach pie and dolmades (stuffed grape leaves) served with an open pita, French fries and a Greek salad.
Salads are also popular, from the New Orleans chicken salad -- a blackened chicken breast on a bed of tossed greens with tomato, onion, mushrooms, black olives and shredded cheese served with a homemade dressing -- to the chef salad -- a bed of fresh mixed greens topped with smoked turkey, ham, cucumbers, tomatoes and onion.
The diner offers lunch specials from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. The most popular selections from these specials are the Health Nut -- chicken, fresh spinach, mushrooms and artichokes in a lemon wine sauce served over pasta -- and the chicken and shrimp fettucine alfredo.
There are also more than 20 specialty signature sandwiches on the menu, including a grilled chicken teriyaki sandwich, a patty melt and fried flounder or catfish sandwiches, as well as burgers and wraps.
A Kids Corner includes breakfast, lunch and dinner options for children priced from $2.25 to $5.45.
Breakfast at Metro Cafe Diner is served 24 hours a day and menu selections include eggs, waffles, pancakes, French toast, grits and more. The most popular items are the omelettes, from the vegetarian omelette made with broccoli, zucchini, cauliflower, carrots, spinach and mushrooms, to the fajita omelette with chicken, green peppers, onions and jalapeno peppers with Monterey jack cheese.
Beverages on hand include sodas, milk, iced tea, coffee, cappuccino and espresso, milkshakes and beer, wine and liquor.
