The Messenger
(R)
Movie: 3 out of 4 stars
Disc: 3 1/2 out of 4 stars
Having the incredible bad luck of being released at almost the same time as the similarly themed, higher-profile, multiple Oscar-winning "The Hurt Locker," "The Messenger" is a stateside-set Iraq War drama which focuses on two men whose duties are often more hazardous and emotionally draining than those of battlefield soldiers. The fully deserving Woody Harrelson received an acting nomination for his portrayal of a recovering alcoholic senior soldier charged with shepherding a recently wounded and disillusioned vet (Ben Foster). The raw and emotionally draining documentary "Notification" alone warrants this as a must-own item.
Technical specs: aspect ratio: Widescreen (2.35:1), audio: English (Dolby Digital 5.1 and 2.0), subtitles: English.
