InterContinental plans 18 new hotels
LAWRENCEVILLE — Two of 18 hotels InterContinental Hotel Group PLC plans to open in metro Atlanta over the next three years will be located in Gwinnett.
The company will build a Holiday Inn Express in Suwanee and a Holiday Inn hotel in Buford as part of a large-scale plan to develop new properties and renovate others under multiple brands that include Holiday Inn properties, Crowne Plaza, Staybridge Suites, Candlewood Suites and Hotel Indigo.
The activity represents a $200 million investment by IHG franchisees in metro Atlanta.
Local woman named employee of the year
SUWANEE — A Suwanee resident was recently named employee of the year during the annual Metropolitan Atlanta Employee 60+ Awards luncheon.
Betsy Griffith, who works for the The Kroger Co., will represent metro Atlanta at the state's Older Worker Awards Luncheon in September.
The Metropolitan Atlanta Employee 60+ Awards luncheon recognizes older employees and their employers from across metro Atlanta.
Griffith is a member of the Cultural Council, which works to improve employee morale and customer service at the Kroger store where she works. Her co-workers consider her a great teacher and someone they can always go to for advice. She is always willing to work on short notice, stay later than her scheduled shift and volunteer to work on holidays.
New business set to open in Lawrenceville
LAWRENCEVILLE — On June 5, The Weave Shop, a national chain of businesses offering full-service hair care focusing on affordable hair weaves, will celebrate the grand opening of its newest location in Lawrenceville.
The shop will open at 9 a.m. with hip-hop performer Rasheedah set to make an appearance at 1 p.m. along with Sara Stokes from the MTV reality series "Making The Band 2."
