Wiggins leads UGA softball to rout of Texas

Shiloh grad Megan Wiggins powered the 10th-ranked Georgia fastpitch softball team to a 9-0, five-inning victory over No. 12 Texas, the Big 12 Conference champion, on Sunday.

Wiggins, who was 2-for-4, had a two-run home run in the first inning and an RBI double in the second inning as the Bulldogs (42-10) shortened the game via the run rule. The junior has now reached base in 23 straight games. Wiggins also threw out a Texas baserunner at the plate for her UGA record 10th outfield assist of the season. She also has the school career record of 14.

Burnette powers Tech victory

Buford grad Chase Burnette was 3-for-4 with a home run on Sunday as Georgia Tech finished off a three-game sweep of Illinois-Chicago with a 5-2 victory. He now has 13 homers on the season.

Jed Bradley had 10 strikeouts for his fourth straight win as the fifth-ranked Yellow Jackets improved to 39-9.
