The North Gwinnett Dirt Dawgs 14U fastpitch softball team won the first state berth to ASA Nationals. The 14U Qualifier at Al Bishop Park in Marietta from April 30 to May 2 featured 32 teams from around the state in the tournament.
Only seven berths were awarded for the entire state for travel softball in the 14U A division and the Dirt Dawgs won the first one of seven. The National tournament will be in Moline, Ill., at the end of the summer.

Gwinett duo help bring home silver
Julian Uche (Shiloh) and Brice Smith (Peachtree Ridge) helped the GNWA Black team to a silver medal finish at the elementray duals in Kingsport, Tenn., in April.
MARTIAL ARTS
Fight club tearing up local tourneys
Georgia Fight Club Martial Arts Academy in Loganville has swept through several local competitions with its young jiu jitsu students.
In three months, the academy's students have brought home 14 gold medals, four silver and three bronze in NAGA, Lutador and Copa America tournaments.
The Academy's top competitors have been Christian Torres, Matthew Perez, Shaelynn Chatman, Brieanna Chatman, Austin Redmon, Blaine Marchman and Jacob Patterson.
