SUWANEE -- A former U.S. surgeon general will make the commencement address for the Georgia campus of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, which is located in Suwanee.
David Satcher, director of The Satcher Health Leadership Institute at the Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, was sworn in as the 16th surgeon general in 1998. He is the first person to have served as director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention before being named surgeon general.
Commencement exercises for the college will be held at 2 p.m. May 23 in the Tommy Hughes Ballroom at the Gwinnett Center. The graduates include 76 candidates for a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and 29 candidates for a master's degree in biomedical sciences.
