ADAIRSVILLE -- Eric Eck rescued Buford in Game 1, then dominated in Game 2 Friday as the Wolves swept host Adairsville in the first round of the Class AA state playoffs.
Eck entered in the seventh inning of the opener, retiring three batters to earn the save in a 7-6 victory. It finished off a nice pitching effort from Troy Herterick (5-1), who earned the victory after entering in the fourth inning and throwing into the seventh.
Eck (7-1) started Game 2 and pitched a complete game, striking out six batters and giving up four hits. The only two runs he gave up were in the fifth inning.
Woody Ciepiela was 2-for-4 with four RBIs in Game 2, blasting a three-run homer in the first inning and adding an RBI double in the sixth. Adam Schrader also had two hits and an RBI in the nightcap.
In Game 1, Dylan Stowe was 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs, while teammate Brian Clark was 4-for-4 with an RBI.
The Wolves advance to the second round against the winner of the Pike County-Fannin County series. They would travel to Pike or host Fannin.
