Dr. Zhivago Blu-ray (PG-13)
Movie: 4 out of 4 stars
Disc: 4 out of 4 stars
Upon its 1965 release, David Lean's follow-up to "Lawrence of Arabia" was given a lukewarm reception by critics and confused the director's action/mainstream fans. Although epic in scope, the adaptation of Boris Pasternak's novel is mostly a romantic drama and, unlike the similarly themed "Reds," the politics take a noticeable back seat. The three-disc Blu-ray -- packaged in a gorgeous hardcover book -- is a great way to discover one of the most underrated and misunderstood films of the 20th century.
Technical specs: aspect ratio: Full screen (1080p/2.40:1), audio: English, (5.1 DTS-HD Master), French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish (Dolby Digital 5.1) subtitles: English SDH and 10 other languages.
Special features include:
* 15 featurettes
* CD soundtrack sampler
* Commentaries
* Two documentaries
* Hardcover book packaging with press materials, color stills and essays
(Warner Brothers, $35.99)
