Prep Roundup: Bates, Black Knights walk off with win 2-1 win over South

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Phillip Bates hit a walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to lift Central Gwinnett to a 2-1 win over South Gwinnett in a Region 8-AAAAA baseball game Wednesday.

Ryan Bruce was 1-for-2 with a run, and Taylor Fields (2-0) picked up the win on the mound for the Black Knights (6-7, 1-1) after he struck out seven batters in seven innings.

BASEBALL

North 16, Duluth 2

DULUTH -- North Gwinnett scored 11 runs in the second inning to help the Bulldogs top Duluth 16-2 in five innings on Wednesday.

Will Bates hit a three-run homer and two-run blast in the same inning, finishing 2-for-2 with five RBIs for the night. Bates also picked up the win on the mound for North.

Chris Hawkins went 2-for-4 with a homer, a double and two RBIs. His three hits on the day gave him 121 for his career, a new school record.

Meanwhile, Kyle Norton went 2-for-2 with a homer and a double. Seth Bancroft was 1-for-2, Nick Jones went 1-for-2 with two doubles and Brian Woodruff was 2-for-2 with an RBI. Michael Gufstafson pitched two innings and hit a home run at the plate for North (7-6, 3-2 in Region 7-AAAAA).

Buford 12, Avondale 0

BUFORD -- Buford shut out Avondale 12-0 in five innings in Region 6-AA play Wednesday.

Jeb Dills picked up the win after striking out six batters in three innings for the Wolves. Offensively, Brandon Kinzel was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, Eric Eck was 2-for-2, Cameron Gazaway had two hits, and Shane Swanson hit a triple for Buford.

Parkview 6, Shiloh 0

SNELLVILLE -- Parkview took a 6-0 win over Shiloh in Region 8-AAAAA on Wednesday.

Jesse Foster (5-1) earned the win on the mound, throwing five innings and giving up three hits, no runs, and striking out five batters. Brooks Davis pitched an inning, and Jack Esmonde threw an inning and struck out three batters for the Panthers.

Offensively, Brandon Kregel was 3-for-3 with three RBIs, Matt Olson went 1-for-3 with a three-run homer and Zack Reinstein finished 2-for-3 for Parkview (11-2, 2-0).

Grayson 6, Berkmar 3

GRAYSON -- Clay Ardeeser struck out nine batters in six innings to help the Rams take a 6-3 win over Berkmar on Wednesday.

Mike McHugh went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and a double, Austin Meadows went 1-for-3 with a single and an RBI, and Chris Erwin finished 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Grayson (5-9, 1-1 in Region 8-AAAAA).

For Berkmar, Yeralin Sanchez started the game and gave up three runs in five innings pitched, while Tre Williams was 2-for-2 with a solo homer for the Patriots (5-7, 1-1).

North Forsyth 5, Norcross 4

SUWANEE -- Norcross fell to North Forsyth 5-4 on Wednesday.

Josh Booth was the losing pitcher, but was 2-for-4 with an RBI at the plate, while Tanner Maloof was 1-for-2 and scored two runs for the Blue Devils (7-6, 2-3).

GIRLS TENNIS

Brookwood 3, Starr's Mill 2

PEACHTREE CITY -- Leah Pridgeon earned a point at No. 2 singles to help the Broncos take a 3-2 win over Starr's Mill on Wednesday.

Keelie Denson and Molly McClintock won No. 1 doubles, with Katie Hedlund and Arielle Byington added a win at No. 2 doubles for the Broncos (14-2).

Norcross 3, Collins Hill 2

NORCROSS -- Norcross defeated Collins Hill 3-2 on Wednesday.

Cameron Williams and Nicole Northrup each won singles mathces for Norcross, while Lindsay Holmes and Cameryn Massey earned a win at No. 1 doubles for the Blue Devils (7-2). For Collins Hill, Jillian Estes won at No. 3 singles, while Kaitlin Torke and Lina Tibavinsky won at No. 2 doubles for the Eagles (8-8, 3-5).

Grayson 4, Dacula 1

GRAYSON -- Grayson remained undefeated after taking a 4-1 victory over Dacula on Wednesday.

Alex Clay and Sharon Kim won their singles matches for the Rams. Holly Craig and Kaitlin Smith earned a point at No. 1 doubles, while Alexis Lee and Kristi Cheesman picked up a win at No. 2 doubles for Grayson (15-0, 8-0).

Peachtree Ridge 4, South Forsyth 1

CUMMING -- Mary Jeremiah, Jessica Northcutt and Jean Chung each won singles matches to help Peachtree Ridge beat South Forsyth 4-1 on Wednesday.

Rachel Anderson and Taylor Cohen won at No. 1 doubles for the Lions (14-0, 10-3).

Buford splits

BUFORD -- Buford played two matches on Wednesday, falling to Flowery Branch 4-1, but beating Lumpkin County 5-0.

In the first match, Kelley Cohron won at No. 2 singles to earn the only point for the Wolves. Against Lumpkin County, the Wolves got a singles sweep, with wins by Kelley Cohron, Kathryn Bradshaw and Madison Browning. Michelle Hanley and Jennifer Wiley won at No. 1 doubles, while Abby Hundley and Emma Joseph earned a win at No. 2 doubles for Buford (10-8).

Providence 3, Eagle's Landing Christian 2

SUWANEE -- Jenny Hersh earned a point at No. 3 singles as Providence took a 3-2 win over Eagle's Landing Christian on Wednesday.

Rebecca Swindall and Robin Ferris won at No. 1 doubles and Abby Mazza and Katherine Harris helped with a win at No. 2 doubles for the Stars.

Athens Academy 3, Wesleyan 2

ATHENS -- Athens Academy beat Wesleyan 3-2 on Wednesday.

Julie Rodriguez and Catherine Sutcliff won at No. 1 doubles and Erin Hall and Logan Morris earned a win at No. 2 doubles for the Wolves.

LILBURN -- Parkview shut out Berkmar 5-0 on Wednesday.

Wesley Mendoza, Luke McDonald and Nathan Fravlee swept the singles matches. Patrick Massey and Sunny Tran won at No. 1 doubles, while Jon Benken and Taylor Cheek earned a win at No. 2 doubles for the Panthers (13-5).

Brookwood 5, Starr's Mill 0

PEACHTREE CITY -- Brookwood swept Starr's Mill 5-0 on Wednesday afternoon to remain undefeated (16-0).

Winning for the Broncos at singles were Grayson Mills, Randy Phillips and Mark Guentert. In doubles, Chris Eastwood and Matt Jones earned a point, as did Zach Jones and Logan Taylor.

Buford shuts out Flowery Branch, Lumpkin Co.

BUFORD -- Buford swept both Flowery Branch and Lumpkin County 5-0 on Wednesday afternoon.

In the first match, Colby West, Rob Hunter and Michael Becker each won singles matches for the Wolves. David Markes and Matthew Gates earned a win at No. 1 doubles, while Bryce Benson and Sammy Morgan picked up a point in No. 2 doubles for the Wolves.

Buford defeated Lumpkin County in the second match, with wins in singles by West, Hunter and Becker. Benson and Gates won No. 1 doubles, with Ian Chambers and Alex Turner also winning at doubles for the Wolves (11-7).

Collins Hill 3, Norcross 2

NORCROSS -- Collins Hill defeated Norcross 3-2 on Wednesday.

Chris Clark won No. 2 singles, while Tyler Anderson and Tyler Kallgren earned a win at No. 1 doubles. Alec Rahmanian and Jake Inderrieden added a point at No. 2 doubles for the Eagles (9-7, 4-5), while Evan Taylor and Cooper Donnelly won singles matches for Norcross.

Dacula 5, Grayson 0

GRAYSON -- Sweeping singles for the Falcons were Kevin Ramberg, Chris Ragan and Matt Nelson, as Dacula took a 5-0 victory over Grayson on Wednesday.

Blair Kievit and Michael Ragan won No. 1 doubles, and Blair Hutchins and Caleb Barth picked up a point at No. 2 doubles for Dacula (13-3, 6-2).

Peachtree Ridge 3, South Forsyth 2

CUMMING -- Alex Makarenko and Chris Willis won singles matches to help the Lions take a 3-2 win over South Forsyth in their regular season finale Wednesday.

Brock Beisel and Hunter Tomlinson won at No. 2 doubles for Peachtree Ridge (8-2)

LILBURN -- Providence fell to Eagle's Landing Christian 3-2 on Wednesday.

LILBURN -- Connor King scored four goals and Mitchell Rust added two goals for the Panthers as Parkview (2-7) shut out Campbell 11-0 on Wednesday.

SUWANEE -- Collins Hill took a 14-4 win over Grayson on Wednesday.

Connor Squires led with six goals, while Collin Russell added three goals and three assists. Alex Squires had four saves in goal for the Eagles (8-3).

Wesleyan 10, St. Pius 4

NORCROSS -- Harrison Cheeley scored four goals to help the Wolves take a 10-4 win over St. Pius on Wednesday.

Scott Schroer scored two goals, with Davis Brown contributing a goal and four assists for Wesleyan (7-3).

GIRLS LACROSSE

Collins Hill 17, Grayson 6

SUWANEE -- Danielle Vincent led the Eagles with nine goals to help Collins Hill top Grayson 17-6 on Wednesday.

Darcy Walker scored three goals amd Mollie Meredith added a goal and an assist, while Kara Knapik and Madison Pyndall each had a goal for the Eagles. Casey Burd had six saves in goal for Collin Hill.

Northview 21, Peachtree Ridge 4

SUWANEE -- Peachtree Ridge fell to Northview 21-4 on Wednesday afternoon.

Jennifer Hennelly and Caitlin Palanza each scored two goals for the Lions (6-2-1, 3-1).

BOYS GOLF

Parkview beats Dacula

SNELLVILLE -- Ted Moon shot a 41 for Parkview to help the Panthers beat Dacula 171-184 at Summit Chase on Wednesday.

Tate Gardner was the low medalist of the match with a 37 for Dacula.

Grayson tops Collins Hill

MONROE -- Grayson defeated Collins Hill 156-179 on Wednesday at the Providence Club.

Jamie Carr shot 38 for the Rams, while Chris Rajek was the low medalist with 36 for Collins Hill.

GIRLS GOLF

Collins Hill defeats Grayson

MONROE -- Collins Hill took a 76-109 victory over Grayson at the Providence Club on Wednesday.

Lauren Court was the low scorer with a 37 and Jackie Rajek shot a 39 for Collins Hill.
