Deal said Tuesday that a report by congressional investigators was political payback. The nonpartisan Office of Congressional Ethics released a report Monday saying the Republican also exceeded the limit on outside income he could earn as a congressman.

Republican lawmaker wants to impeach AG

ATLANTA — A Republican lawmaker has filed a resolution to bring articles of impeachment against Democratic Attorney General Thurbert Baker for failing to file a lawsuit challenging a new federal health care law.

State Rep. Mark Hatfield, of Waycross, filed the legislation on Tuesday. The resolution said that Baker is required by the Georgia constitution to follow Gov. Sonny Perdue's direction and file a lawsuit challenging the Democratic-backed health care bill.

Baker has said the state lacks a viable legal claim to file a suit. Perdue has said he would bypass Baker and hire appoint an outside counsel as a special attorney general to bring a suit.
