HOSCHTON -- A veteran administrator has been tapped to replace the retiring principal of Duncan Creek Elementary.
The Gwinnett County Board of Education has approved the appointment of Deborah Chavannes as principal of Duncan Creek, the school system announced Tuesday.
Chavannes has served as an assistant principal in Gwinnett County for 16 years. She joined the administrative team at Minor Elementary this year, after serving as an assistant principal at Grayson Elementary since 1994.
Her appointment is effective July 1. She will succeed principal Chris Emsley, who plans to retire at the end of the school year.
Chavannes began her career in education in 1981 and has a specialist's degree in administration and supervision from Georgia State University. She is a member of the school system's 2010 Quality-Plus Leader Academy, the training program for aspiring principals.
