AUBURN -- An Auburn man was arrested Tuesday for lighting his own trailer on fire.
Cedric Jefferson, 25, was charged with one count of arson and two counts of criminal damage to property, after fire completely destroyed the singlewide trailer early Tuesday, a press release said.
Witnesses said they saw a man lighting the fire, the release said.
According to Barrow County Emergency Services' Lt. Scott Dakin, firefighters found the trailer 50 percent involved when they arrived at 64 Main St. after a 3:41 a.m. 911 call.
Firefighters brought the fire under control quickly to prevent damage to nearby vehicles and a second singlewide trailer, Dakin said.
Fire investigators worked with Auburn police officers and Barrow County sheriff's deputies on the investigation, which lead to Jefferson's arrest, the release said.
The American Red Cross was called to the scene to assist the other resident of the trailer.
"This type of fire and investigation shows how well personnel with Barrow County Emergency Services work with other departments," Dakin said. "With a thorough investigation and interviews, an arrest was made the same morning as the fire."
Jefferson is being held at the Barrow County Detention Center.
