NORCROSS -- A state grant will help a local business group beautify Gwinnett's gateway.
The Georgia Department of Transportation awarded the Gwinnett Village Community Improvement District a $50,000 GATEway grant to continue landscaping improvements surrounding the Center Way overpass on Interstate 85.
"A primary goal of the GATEway Grant program is to fund enduring enhancement of the roadsides for the traveling public, so past history and evidence that the CID has solid plans for quality maintenance of their beautification project was key," said Davie Biagi, landscape architect for the state agency. "The Georgia DOT appreciates the fine example and enthusiastic participation of Gwinnett Village CID in beautifying Georgia's public rights of way."
The newly landscaped area will be an extension to the $825,000 in improvements at the interstate's interchanges with Jimmy Carter Boulevard, Indian Trail-Lilburn Road and Beaver Ruin Road, a press release said.
According to the release, the funding comes just as the group is completing more than $200,000 of landscaping along Buford Highway and at Jimmy Carter and
