Lawyer suspends campaign for House

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Attorney Jason Thompson suspended his campaign for Georgia House District 98.

Thompson was tapped to lead the National Election Law Team for Tea Party Patriots, after serving on the election law team for the Georgia Republican Party.

"My family and I have given this a lot of thought and prayerful consideration," said Thompson, whose wife Julianne heads the local FreedomWorks operation. "We are at a crossroads in America, and at this pivotal time in history, I believe I can make the biggest difference working nationally on election law and ballot security for Tea Party Patriots for the midterm elections."

Thompson's decision leaves two people in the July GOP primary for the northern Gwinnett district, where incumbent Bobby Reese is expected to run for Congress.

The remaining candidates are businessman Josh Clark and former county commission Chairman Wayne Hill.

Thompson said he still plans to run for political office in the future.
