For much of her young life, Buford's Andraya Carter has dreamed of playing college basketball at the University of Tennessee.

Just a sophomore in high school, Carter had hoped that opportunity would one day come, but didn't realize it would come so soon. After receiving a scholarship offer from legendary coach Pat Summitt, the Wolves' guard jumped at the chance and gave a verbal commitment to the Volunteers.

"I've had offers since I was in eighth grade, when Georgia offered me," the 5-foot-8 sophomore said. "I got a few more offers last year. But I told my parents when I was 7 years old I wanted to go to Tennessee. So, it was really in the back of my mind.

"When they offered (earlier this year), I didn't want to commit off emotion. So, I took some time and looked into everything and prayed with my parents about it."

Carter has been exceptional in her two seasons at Buford in which she was a starter on two straight Class AA state championship teams.

She earned first-team all-county honors by the Daily Post after averaging a team best 17.6 points per game, plus 6.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 5.2 steals.
