ATLANTA -- U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson has been released from the hospital where he was being treated for a bacterial infection.

The 65-year-old Republican was admitted to Northside Hospital on Monday after feeling weak and dehydrated.

Spokeswoman Joan Kirchner said Thursday that Isakson's condition has improved enough for him to return home where he'll continue his recovery.

Dr. Steven Marlowe, one of Isakson's attending physicians, says bacterial infections typically require lots of rest on the patient's part before they're fully recovered.

Isakson is seeking re-election to a second term this year.
