'Suspicious' man sought in shed fire

LILBURN — Fire investigators are trying to locate a man who may be connected to a Lilburn shed fire Wednesday, officials said.

The 12:44 p.m. blaze destroyed a storage shed containing mostly lawn equipment in a backyard in the 500 block of South Wind Drive.

The "suspicious" man was seen wandering near the structure before it ignited, said Gwinnett County Fire Department spokesman Capt. Thomas Rutledge. A neighbor called 911 after spotting smoke and flames.

Rutledge said the fire could be arson, and investigators are seeking the man for questioning. He's described as a black man wearing dark-colored clothing.

Georgia Arson Control Inc. is offering a standard reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction, Rutledge said.

Investigators ask anyone with information to call the fire and explosives investigation section at 678-518-4890 or the Georgia Arson Control Hotline at 1-800-282-5804.
