Duluth's Shipp wins on Hurricane tour Duluth resident Benjamin Shipp won the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour's Spring Championship this past weekend at Chateau Elan Golf Club. Shipp was first in the 10- to 12-year-old division, shooting rounds of 73 and 74. He won the division by a whopping 24 strokes. Gwinnett Heat to open home football season The Gwinnett Heat adapted sports football team will open the home season Saturday at The Monarch School in Duluth. The team will play two games, the first at 10 a.m. against the West Georgia Wolverines. The second game is at 2 p.m. vs. the Atlanta Wolfpack. Dacula alumni soccer game is Saturday Dacula High School will host its first soccer alumni game Saturday at the stadium, with a girls game at 11 a.m., a boys game at 11:40 a.m. and a co-ed game at 12:20 p.m. Lunch will be served at 1 p.m. Participants are asked to donate $15 to cover lunch, a T-shirt and a small contribution to the Falcons' soccer program. The Adairsville property received a Silver Medalist designation after being evaluated on golf, lodging, food and drink. The resort features a par-72, 7,350-yard Jim Fazio layout golf course, which debuted in 1999. It has received a 4.5-star rating by Golf Digest's Best Places to Play list.More like this story
