ATLANTA -- U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson has been hospitalized, and doctors believe he is suffering from a bacterial infection.
Isakson spokeswoman Joan Kirchner said the Georgia Republican woke up Monday feeling ill and very dehydrated. He was admitted to Northside Hospital in Atlanta to receive fluids and undergo tests.
Kirchner says the 65-year-old Isakson is responding ''very well to the treatment and is feeling much better.''
She says he met Tuesday morning with his Senate chief of staff at the hospital and hopes to be back at work soon.
Isakson is seeking re-election to a second term this year.
