Atlanta Tipoff Club honors 16 local players

A total of 16 Gwinnett high school basketball players were named to the Atlanta Tipoff Club All-Metro Teams, which were released Monday.

The list featured nine local girls players, including Norcross teammates Diamond DeShields and Briana Jordan and Wesleyan teammates Erin Hall and Logan Morris.

Buford's Andraya Carter, Parkview's Lauren Coleman, Greater Atlanta Christian's Chaney Means, Mill Creek's Moneshia Simmons and Winder-Barrow's Mimi Hill also made the team.

GAC teammates Malcolm Brogdon and Trent Wiedeman were on the boys all-metro team along with Central Gwinnett's Jordan Adams, Peachtree Ridge's C.J. Blackwell, Meadowcreek's Terrance Glass, Norcross' Jeremy Lamb and South Gwinnett's Javonte Maynor.

The club also announced its metro players of the year, Douglass' Khaalidah Miller and Columbia's JerShon Cobb, and its metro coaches of the year, Southwest DeKalb's Kathy Richey-Walton and Columbia's Phil McCrary.

Apalachee wins state lifting crown

Apalachee won the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association-sponsored state weightlifting championships this past weekend in Hawkinsville.

The Wildcats' James Vang was first in 140-and-under division (280 bench, 445 squat, 215 clean), while teammates Cody Boyle (third) and Rocksah Audies (fifth) also scored in that division.

Apalachee's Alex Camp won the 151-160 division (315 bench, 450 squat, 245 clean) and Dennis Prichard was first in 181-190 (345 bench, 650 squat, 300 clean). Jon Lee (third, 171-180) and Johnny Brown (fourth, 246-and-up) also scored points for the Wildcats.

Norcross' Seth Hinsley was state runner-up in the 206-225 class.
