SNELLVILLE -- By a vote of 4-2 Monday, Snellville Mayor Jerry Oberholtzer and City Council members voted to postpone a vote that would grant or deny a conditional-use permit for a pawn shop on U.S. Highway 78.
Attorney Michael Sullivan, representing applicant Hill Top Pawn, requested a two-week postponement to try to placate neighbors in the area.
"We'd love the opportunity to be a good neighbor" and meet with people who have concerns about the pawn shop, Sullivan said Monday after asking for the delay.
Sullivan also asked city leaders for use of the city council chambers for the purposes of accommodating that meeting. The meeting between the pawn shop applicant, Sullivan, concerned neighbors and at least one representative from city council will take place next week. The date and time will be posted on the city Web site as well as the Snellville Facebook page.
Councilwoman Kelly Kautz and councilman Mike Sabbagh cast the two votes against granting the postponement. Kautz said that the applicant had already been given the chance to meet with neighbors, and another delay was not necessary.
