LAWRENCEVILLE -- A man who got out of a vehicle that broke down on the interstate Saturday afternoon was hit and killed by a pickup truck, police said.
Riverdale resident Randy J. Howard was a passenger in a vehicle that had become disabled and stopped in the gore area where Ga. Highway 316 and Interstate 85 south merge, according to a news release.
The driver of the black 1979 Dodge pickup truck, Stone Mountain resident Gabriel J. Verrett, was merging onto I-85 from the entrance ramp from Ga. 316 about noon Saturday when she struck Howard, the news release states.
Howard was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center, where he died from his injuries, the news release states.
Verrett was also transported to Gwinnett Medical Center, where she was treated for minor injuries and released, the news release states. No citations or formal charges had been issued Saturday evening.
Gwinnett police said the case is still under investigation.
