DULUTH -- The Gwinnett County Swim and Dive Booster Club held its annual banquet Thursday night to honor the top athletes from the county's public high schools.

Former Auburn standout Brock Newman, who led Shiloh to state titles in 1992 and 1994, was the event's featured speaker. Newman was a 22-time NCAA All-American, a 14-time SEC champion and the 1999 SEC swimmer of the year at Auburn. He also helped the Tigers to NCAA titles in 1997 and 1999.

Two of the evening's major awards went to North Gwinnett's Caroline Kenney and Peachtree Ridge's Luke Upchurch as the county swimmers of the year. The divers of the year were Parkview's Tabitha Banks and Sean Piner.

The coach of the year award winners were Megan White for diving, Brookwood's Greg Puckett and Michelle Golden for boys and Rick Creed and Kevin Rodgers for girls.

A special recognition plaque also was awarded to Ann Thomas for serving from 2004 to the present as vice president of information for the booster club.
