STATHAM -- Barrow County authorities arrested a parolee Saturday in connection with the death of a man whose body was discovered late Friday night in a drainage ditch near Statham.
Colbert resident Adalberto Sanchez, 53, is being held in the Barrow County Detention Center on charges of felony murder, possession of a firearm or knife while trying to commit a crime and aggravated assault, according to jail records.
Sanchez was arrested at 10:43 a.m. Saturday at an apartment complex in Bogart, according to a news release. Sanchez is on parole from Florida for first-degree murder. He has been living in Georgia for an undisclosed length of time under the supervision of Georgia authorities.
The deceased man's identity is being withheld pending the notification of his next-of-kin. A tip from a concerned resident led authorities to Booth Road in Statham, near Ga. Highway 300, where his body was found.
