LOGANVILLE -- A local road will be closed Monday, as crews work to widen Ga. Highway 20 as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
On the north side of Ga. 20, Brand Road will be closed from its intersection with Ga. 20 to Baycreek Road from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to allow crews to install a drainage pipe under the road.
"As crews install the new drainage pipe, motorists will not be able to turn onto or off of Brand Road on the northern side of State Route 20," said Randall Davis, DOT District Construction Engineer. "If the weather cooperates we can get the pipe installed in just one day. Once the pipe is in place, temporary asphalt will cover the pipe until the final grade of Brand Road is set later during construction. A signed detour will be in place directing traffic."
The detour route is to take Willowwind Drive to Baycreek to Brand, a press release said.
For the 2.7-mile long project from Cooper/Ozora Road to Brand Road, the $10.9 million construction cost for the widening is paid for by stimulus funds. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2011.
