LAWRENCEVILLE -- A fire that damaged a Lawrenceville duplex in the 900 block of Arlington Way on Friday morning was ruled arson, a spokesman for the Gwinnett County Fire Department said.
Fire crews responded to a report from a passer-by of smoke coming from one side of the one-story duplex at 9:38 a.m. Upon arrival, crews found moderate smoke and a blaze in the living room, spokesman Capt. Thomas Rutledge said. The fire was quickly extinguished.
The fire caused moderate damage to a single room in the vacant unit, Rutledge said.
"Fire investigators believe that unknown person(s) forcibly entered the unit through a back door and then set fire to a piece of furniture in the living room," Rutledge said.
Fire Investigators are asking anyone with information to call the Gwinnett Fire Investigations Section at 678-518-4890 or the Georgia Arson Control Hotline at 800-282-5804.
Georgia Arson Control Inc. offers a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for arson.
