DULUTH -- Authorities seized more than a half-million dollars' worth of cocaine Wednesday in a car abandoned in a Best Buy parking lot in Duluth.
Gwinnett County Sheriff's deputies are pulling together search warrants, and the hunt for drug dealers involved is under way, said Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Stacey Bourbonnais.
The 25 kilos pulled from the car have an estimated street value of $600,000, Bourbonnais said.
The investigation began when deputies fielded a caller's tip about drug activity at a Norcross residence in the 2500 block of Redfield Drive, off Ingram Road.
Deputies surveyed the residence and requested a search warrant Wednesday based on drug transactions they observed, Bourbonnais said.
Moments prior to the warrant being issued, deputies watched the vehicle leave the home. They trailed it a couple of miles to a Best Buy parking lot on Pleasant Hill Road, where the driver abandoned the car and fled, Bourbonnais said.
"A short time later, a K-9 alerted on the car, and another search warrant was obtained," leading to the dope seizure, she said.
Inside the Redfield Drive home, deputies found drug-packing material and a small amount of cash, she said. No arrests had been made as of Thursday afternoon.
