LAWRENCEVILLE -- A Norcross man will join his wife in prison for pimping a 15-year-old girl, following a plea deal he struck with prosecutors Thursday.
James "J.R." Fales pleaded guilty to one count of pimping and was sentenced by Gwinnett Superior Court Judge Warren Davis to 14 years. In exchange, prosecutors dismissed his remaining charges -- two counts of child molestation -- that can carry longer sentences, said Assistant District Attorney Jay Hughes.
Fales' wife, Melissa Fales, entered a similar plea in lieu of a jury trial last month and was dealt 10 years in prison, followed by 10 more on probation. The couple admitted to profiting from sexual transactions involving the girl -- a relative of J.R. Fales -- at their Beaver Ruin Road residence between January and July 2007.
In some instances, the Fales kept all of the money men paid for sex with the girl, according to Melissa Fales' previous testimony. Pimping is a felony in Georgia when the victim is under age 18.
As a special condition of her probation, Melissa Fales was required to testify against her husband. In a March 4 hearing, she testified her husband had pimped her before the girl became involved, Hughes said.
The judge ordered the couple to complete sex-offender evaluations and treatment and to have no contact with the victim or her family, Hughes said.
Both will be required to register as sex offenders.
