Up in the Air (Blu-ray) (R)
Movie: Four stars out of four
Disc: Three and a half stars out of four
Disappointingly skunked at the Academy Awards, "Up in the Air" had the misfortune of coming out too soon and going up against two powerhouse action films. This wry character study is not only the best movie of 2009 and the third straight perfect effort from director Jason Reitman, it serves as a blistering commentary on the current recession and its many ripple effects. Serious when it needs to be, it's more of a comedy than anything and provides its three Oscar-nominated principals (George Clooney, Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick) plenty of room to stretch and shine.
Technical specs: aspect ratio: Widescreen (1080p/1.85:1), audio: English (5.1 Dolby Digital DTS-HD), French, Portuguese and Spanish (5.1 Dolby Digital), subtitles: English SDH, French, Portuguese and Spanish.
