LAWRENCEVILLE -- Toxicology results show a Grayson woman's blood-alcohol level was more than three times Georgia's legal driving limit in a fiery crash that killed her young daughter, police said Tuesday.
Police on Monday arrested Alicia Tubman, 26, on charges that include vehicular homicide, cruelty to children, DUI, reckless driving and reckless conduct. She remains at the Gwinnett County Jail without bond.
Investigators believe Tubman's BAC was more than .24 percent the night of Jan. 11 when she crashed a Toyota Highlander in Dacula, killing Jayla Cook, 3. Georgia's legal threshold for driving is .08 percent.
An autopsy revealed the child burned to death. Tubman was airlifted to an Atlanta burn unit for treatment and later released.
The single-vehicle crash happened on a curvy portion of Ga. Highway 124 near Old Fountain Road. Police said Tubman lost control of the Toyota, struck a fire hydrant and a tree before the vehicle came to a rest and caught fire.
Jayla was riding in a rear car seat during impact. A bystander pulled Tubman from the burning vehicle but was unable to rescue the child before flames engulfed it, police said.
