NORCROSS -- An apartment fire Friday night damaged five units at an Ashley Lakes Drive complex.
Firefighters responded to the Highland Lakes Apartments at about 10 p.m., reports said, where they found the right corner of the 500 building on fire.
Gwinnett Fire spokesman Capt. Thomas Rutledge said the blaze caused heavy damage to two top floor apartments and moderate smoke and water damage to three bottom floor units.
The cause appears accidental, Rutledge said, and is believed to have originated from a fire burning in the fireplace of an occupied apartment.
The Red Cross was contacted to assist displaced residents but no injuries were reported.
