Southern Community Newspapers Incorporated is the new name of the parent company of the Gwinnett Daily Post.
Formerly Triple Crown Media, the new name better reflects the mission of the company's seven Georgia newspapers, officials said.
Triple Crown Media was formed in 2005 when the newspapers were spun off from Gray Television and became a new public company. In December, the company went private with new owners. In this new environment, officials felt it was time for a new name.
"It's great to have a new beginning and this is represented by our new branding. As a pure newspaper company, SCNI truly reflects our core competency along with the southern heritage of our seven publications," said Mike Gebhart, executive vice president.
The new name was selected in a contest that drew nearly 600 suggestions submitted by employees. Regional Circulation Manager Thom Bell submitted the winning entry. Daily Post Creative Services Supervisor Adriana Reidel designed the company's new logo.
"The Post strives to be a newspaper that serves the community, so the new name of our parent company perfectly aligns with our mission," said J.K. Murphy, publisher of the Daily Post.
SCNI publishes six daily newspapers, Gwinnett Daily Post, Rockdale Citizen, Newton Citizen, Clayton News-Daily, Henry Daily Herald and Albany Herald, and one weekly, the Jackson Progress Argus.
