Ponyo 2-disc Blu-ray/DVD combo (G)
Movie: 3 1/2 out of 4 stars Disc: 3 1/2 out of 4 stars It's odd that the most recent Anime adventure from legendary director Hayao Miyazaki was mysteriously snubbed for a Best Animated Feature Oscar nomination, as this is his most (American) audience friendly effort to date. Based oh-so-loosely on "The Little Mermaid," the film sports an innocent "Finding Nemo" sense of wonder and just enough angular weirdness to keep it entrenched in art-house territory. The expansive featurette will go far in explaining Anime and Miyazoki to the uninitiated and maybe even convince a few to delve further into his back catalogue. Technical specs: aspect ratio: Widescreen (1080p/1.85:1), audio: English (5.1 Dolby Digital DTS-HD), Japanese and French (5.1 Dolby Digital), subtitles: English SDH, French and Spanish.
