Hoops delayed by snow

The numerous weather-related cancellations of Tuesday's high school events are nothing new for baseball, soccer and other spring sports coaches. They had a severe 2009 season with rain.

But the wintry mix rarely affects indoor sports like basketball. That has certainly changed this season. The latest weather delays came Tuesday when four basketball events, including three state tournament matchups, were postponed a day.

Both of the Class AAAAA boys second-round games featuring Gwinnett teams were pushed back to today. The Meadowcreek at Norcross boys game now will be a 7:30 p.m. game today, following the Norcross girls' 6 p.m. state tourney matchup with Marietta. Meanwhile the Central Gwinnett boys will host Wheeler today at 7 p.m. instead of Tuesday.

The other local team affected was Wesleyan, which saw its boys game at Pace Academy changed to today at 7:30 p.m. That also puts both Wolves teams playing the same night at different locations, since the Wesleyan girls host Towns County in the second round.

Gwinnett County Public Schools also elected to switch its middle school basketball championship games from Tuesday to Thursday. The games will remain at 6 and 7:30 p.m. at the same location, South Gwinnett.

Gwinnett's state playoff girls games will be played today as scheduled with the exception of the Norcross-Marietta girls matchup, which was moved up an hour to accommodate the Blue Devils' doubleheader.
