SNELLVILLE, Ga. A Republican state senator says he will run to replace John Linder in the U.S. House.
Don Balfour, of Snellville, said Monday he will seek the Republican nomination for the 7th congressional district east of Atlanta. Balfour is chairman of the powerful state Senate Rules committee. He's a top executive with the Waffle House restaurant chain. Balfour says he's running as "the voice of principled conservative leadership" and pledged to fight "the radical left wing agenda" of President Barack Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Linder announced Saturday that he would retire after 18 years in the House. That's set up a furious round of jockeying to replace him. The 7th district includes parts of Gwinnett, Barrow and Walton counties.More like this story
