Lawrenceville Sonic crew one of best in nation

LAWRENCEVILLE — The Sonic Drive-In crew at 299 Grayson Highway in Lawrenceville is one step closer to qualifying for the national finals of the 17th annual Dr Pepper Sonic Games, the annual competition that recognizes the best Sonic Drive-Ins in the country.

The Lawrenceville Sonic is one of 300 remaining drive-ins striving to become one of the final 12 teams to participate in the national finals Oct. 3 and 4 in Las Vegas.

The Dr Pepper Sonic Games competition for grill glory gives drive-ins a chance to go face-to-face to prove which drive-in is No. 1 in the nation with challenging team and individual competitions. The nine-month gauntlet of Olympic-style games tests Sonic crew members’ knowledge in the categories of Carhop (food delivery), Fountain (drink preparation), Switchboard (service delivery), Dresser, Grill and Swamp (food preparation).

The Top 300 teams will take part in audits as the pool narrows to 48 locations this month. Those 48 drive-ins will compete in traveling knowledge bowls until the list is slimmed to the final 12 drive-ins.
