BUFORD -- An 84-year-old Buford man was killed while standing in his driveway Monday morning when an errant truck left the roadway and struck him, police said.
Police said the victim, Burl S. Rape, died at the scene. The alleged driver, Martin A. Taylor, 34, of Gainesville, was arrested on misdemeanor charges.
The incident happened about 11:17 a.m. Monday in the 5500 block of Little Mill Road, police said.
Taylor was reportedly towing a trailer northbound in a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado on Little Mill Road near Skylar Drive. He failed to negotiate a curve and veered off the road, striking Rape, said Gwinnett police Cpl. Edwin Ritter.
Taylor was not injured, Ritter said.
Taylor faces charges of second-degree vehicular homicide and failure to maintain a single lane, police said. He's been released on $12,500 bond.
An investigation is ongoing, Ritter said.
