DULUTH -- A two-car collision in Duluth claimed a 71-year-old Lilburn woman early Monday, police said.
The crash happened at 3:43 a.m. on Old Norcross Road, between Boggs Road and Old Victorian Drive.
Investigators believe the driver of an eastbound 2003 Honda Civic lost control of the vehicle, slid into the westbound lanes and collided with a 2007 Toyota Camry containing four Lilburn residents.
All occupants of both vehicles were transported to Gwinnett Medical Center, where the Camry's front passenger, Kamersult Husnani, died from her injuries, said Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter.
An investigation continues. Charges are pending against the Honda Civic's driver, Ritter said.
"The driver (of the Honda) initially stated that his wife was driving the vehicle and later recanted his story," Ritter said.
That driver, who police did not identify, later admitted to being the vehicle's sole occupant, Ritter said.
Injuries to Husnani's family members in the Camry were not life-threatening, Ritter said. They included a 76-year-old rear passenger and 5-year-old girl, along with the driver Ahmed Husnani, 43.
