G-Braves' rally falls short in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Gwinnett Braves briefly held a lead in the opener of a four-game series in Columbus, but gave it right back and lost 7-5 on Friday.

The G-Braves broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the top of the sixth inning on solo homers by Barbaro Canizares and Jordan Schafer. But the Clippers scored four runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 5-3 lead.

Gwinnett trailed 7-3 in the top of the ninth and scored two runs, but left the tying runs on base.

The G-Braves (34-41) are 0-for-5 in games that begin a road trip.

Matt Young led the offensive effort with a 3-for-5 performance that included an RBI. Canizares was 2-for-5 with his fourth homer of the season. Luis Bolivar was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Parkview grad Tim Gustafson (7-4, 4.92 ERA) is scheduled to start for the G-Braves tonight in Columbus.
