• Atmosphere: Bushels Seafood Cafe boasts a casual, no frills dining experience that centers around the food. Four four-top tables fill the small dining area inside the restaurant, where customers order at a counter then have a seat either at one of the tables if dining in or a long, cushioned bench if carrying out.

Every first Saturday of the month, Bushels hosts what has been dubbed “Crabasation,” a variation of the word conversation, a forum during which customers can voice opinions and discuss current events. Crabasation begins at 7 p.m.

• Menu: Seafood, seafood and more seafood. Bushels’ 2010 summer menu, which runs through September, is an expansive list of the myriad ways seafood can be prepared, from grilled, fried and boiled gulf white shrimp to steamed, oven-broiled and stuffed crabs. The shrimp, garlic crabs and crawfish are the most popular menu selections.

All food is cooked to order so customers can expect a minimum 10 minute wait.

Bushels Seafood Cafe also serves a variety of fish — flounder, grouper, red snapper, catfish, salmon and tilapia — lobster, alligator tail, gumbo, chicken fingers, burgers, po’ boys, wings and a bevy of sides, including corn on the cob, hush puppies, fried okra, green beans, potato salad and more.

The restaurant’s lunch special is $5.50 and customers can choose from the following served with a side and a 20-ounce bottled drink: eight wings, a pork link po’ boy, tilapia or whiting sandwich, an Angus burger, a two-piece whiting dinner, a chicken, whiting or tilapia salad, three chicken fingers or a two-piece tilapia dinner. An $8.99 lunch special includes a side and drink and a choice of gumbo and a side salad, a seafood po’ boy, a shrimp or specialty fish salad, a catfish sandwich, one piece of fish and a crab cake, a mini snow crab basket, six shrimp and five wings or one pound of shrimp. Both specials are offered from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays.

Beverages include Bushels’ signature sweet tea and the all natural house blend fruit punch, bottled Coca-Cola products and bottled water.
