Suspect nabbed in Duluth murder

LAWRENCEVILLE -- One suspect has been arrested in connection with the apparent drug-related murder of 19-year-old Deonte Moore, whose body was found at a Duluth apartment complex earlier this month.

Maintenance crews found Moore's body in a wooded area near the Bridgewater Apartments on Satellite Boulevard on the morning of June 11, appearing to have been shot at least once, police said.

The murder was believed to be motivated by the sale of illegal drugs, Gwinnett County police spokesman Cpl. Brian Kelly said at the time.

This week, a 27-year-old Gwinnett man was arrested in connection with the crime.

Records show the suspect, whom police verified as a player in the Moore case, being booked into Gwinnett County Jail on Tuesday on charges of murder and possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute.

Records also show he has been arrested 14 times since 2000. He served 14 months in Gwinnett County Jail for distribution of marijuana from 2008 to 2009.

Because investigators are still searching for a second suspect, they asked that his identity not be published.

No new details about the investigation were available Thursday.

"The investigator is diligently working on leads to identify and arrest the second suspect," police spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter said.
